YOCHO
YOCHO is a German-Colombian brand that brings the glamour and joie de vivre of Colombian design to Germany and Europe.
My name is Kathrin and I founded YOCHO in 2020 in Berlin. I have been working in the art, culture and design industry for more than 15 years. My brother lives with his family in Bogotá, so I travel to Colombia regularly. I have grown very fond of the country and its people. From my visits I have always brought back special jewelry, which I am regularly asked about. This is how the idea for YOCHO was born.
YOCHO combines my passion for jewelry and accessories and my eye for the extraordinary with my love for the South American country.
The processing of gold has a long history in Colombia - in the valley of the Rio Calima, for example, pendants and jewelry sheets were made of hammered gold as early as 1000 BC. In the course of the 16th century, the "El Dorado", based on a legend, aroused the greed of Europeans for that immeasurable gold treasure, which was suspected to be in Colombia. The proof of the legend is the "Gold Raft of Elodrado", which can be admired today in the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) in Bogotá.
I decided to start with a small selection of pieces from renowned Colombian brands Bamboleira, Daniela Salcedo, LaSierra, Mishky and Tina Botero. These brands work with artisan and indigenous communities who handcraft each piece.
In the future, YOCHO will offer more products ranging from jewelry to bags to fashion items. I am also already working with my partners in Colombia on a custom designed and sustainably produced accessories collection that supports local craftsmanship in Colombia. So it remains exciting!
The name YOCHO is derived from the butterfly "Ochenta y nueve Noventa y ocho" (89'98 butterfly), which can be found mainly in Colombia, with an "89" and a "98" as markings on its wings.
